| GreenFaith is an African, multi-faith, grassroots organization building an African movement for climate justice. A key part of its organizing consists of opposing new fossil fuel projects and deforestation. Among its campaigns, it mobilizes people of faith and spirit to stop the new oil field Tilenga, in Uganda, and the associated new pipeline EACOP, linking Tanzania – projects led primarily by French multinational company TotalEnergies. GreenFaith’s community of action gathers individuals and “Circles”, i.e. communities of care, resilience, and resistance who meet regularly, are rooted in faith and spirituality, and take bold, public action against fossil fuel corporations, institutions, and decision-maker levels. | |
| Main purpose of job | |
| The Young Digital Activist will work full time and be responsible for growing, promoting and supporting activities of Greenfaith‘s digital/social media platforms in Uganda until December 31, 2026, under and together with GreenFaith’s National Coordinator who leads the campaign in Uganda. He/She will help in leveraging social media platforms like TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram to drive change, acquire information from the grassroot affected communities affected by the impacts of the fossil fuel industry, lift those voices online, repackage information and disseminate, mobilize public actions,, and advocate for issues like climate change and social justice in Uganda. | |
| To grow, promote and support activities of GreenFaith’s digital/social media platforms including twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, among others To mobilize, engage and catalyze interest among the multifaith youth in Africa on the STOP EACOP campaign, about climate change, climate justice and broader environmental and SDGs debate, and linking the same with global campaign priority areas of GreenFaith. C. Collection of local stories through videos, interviews, photos, poems, songs, spoken word artists, curation of messages and sharing of the same in the respective social media platforms. To proactively plan and engage in conversations organized by GreenFaith, at the national, regional and global, through platforms such as webinars, welcome calls and online campaigns. To form at least 2 digital circles in their regions, galvanize local voices of the community on the impact of fossil fuel, oil and gas, climate justice and amplify them into larger national, regional, and international platforms To identify and engage policy makers and other stakeholders on the importance of intergenerational equity and elevate youth concerns in national/regional debates about how the fossil fuel Industry and the financial institutions rob the youth of the same. To organize at least 2 tweet chats a month to help GreenFaith in recruitment of more people to join our movement and build our base. To call out the fossil fuel industry online, the respective national governments and the fossil fuel industries, on their part in enabling the fossil fuel industry in the respective regions. There shall be both horizontal and vertical reporting by GreenFaith AfricaB. The GYDA primarily reports to the regional Communication and Digital Associate who will assign/supervise his/her activities. The GYDA will develop a monthly report informed by the fortnightly reports detailing activities carried out and the outcomes of their interventions in terms of the number of tweets posted, the number of youths engaged online etc | |
